At the age of fourteen, he entered the School of Fine Arts at the Benito Juárez Autonomous University.
The "Rufino Tamayo" Plastic Arts workshop began in 1974, with Carlos Kauffmann being a founding member of the workshop.
Since 1972 he has participated in more than thirty exhibitions.

CARLOS VÁZQUEZ KAUFFMANN
Visual Artist
Born in Oaxaca City, he began studying painting at the Rufino Tamayo Workshop in 2008. After earning degrees in Psychology and Education in 2014, he continued his artistic training by studying painting in Mexico City at the Faculty of Arts and Design of UNAM (Academy of San Carlos). In 2016, he completed a diploma program in Contemporary Art at La Curtiduría Center for Visual Arts. His work focuses on painting, sculpture, installation art, and the reinterpretation of traditional ceramics. A notable project in his career is "Resilientes" (Resilient), in which he collaborates with ceramic artisans from Oaxaca. This project has led to exhibitions in museums in Oaxaca, Guadalajara, Los Angeles, California, Madrid, and New York. Recently, he completed an artist residency at Casa Wabi, which resulted in the exhibition Memory Shop, the first showcase from the Casa Wabi Foundation Collection. He was selected to participate in the 2021 International Pictorial Triennial of Tijuana. He currently resides in Oaxaca City and serves as Director of Zapote Negro Graphic Studio.
